Senior Data Migration Specialist – Day Rate Contract (12 Months + Extensions)
 
Overview
A leading public-sector organisation is seeking an experienced Senior Data Migration Specialist to support a major enterprise transformation programme focused on modernising data, analytics, and core systems.
 
This is a senior advisory-led role where you will take ownership of data migration strategy, planning, and oversight across a complex environment.
 
Contract Details
– 12-month day rate contract 
– Strong likelihood of extension (2 x 6 months) 
– Hybrid model: 1 day per week onsite in the Greater Midlands region (remaining days remote) 
– Start date: August 2026 
 
Role Overview
You will play a key role in shaping and governing the end-to-end data migration approach for a large-scale system replacement programme.
 
This includes assessing existing data landscapes, defining migration strategy, ensuring data quality, and providing technical oversight throughout execution.
 
Key Responsibilities
– Assess current databases, data models, and data flows
– Define and deliver a comprehensive data migration strategy
– Lead data quality assessment, cleansing, and validation frameworks
– Provide oversight on ETL/ELT processes, mappings, and transformation logic
– Advise on migration tooling, automation, and performance considerations
– Identify risks and ensure compliance with security and data protection standards
– Produce key deliverables including data models, migration strategy, and validation plans
– Support stakeholders across technical teams, programme leadership, and external partners
 
Required Experience
– 7+ years’ experience in data migration / database architecture roles
– Strong experience across enterprise databases (SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL)
– Proven track record delivering large-scale data migration projects
– Experience with ETL/ELT tools and data migration frameworks
– Exposure to cloud platforms (Azure, AWS)
– Strong stakeholder management and advisory experience
 
Desirable
– Experience working in public sector or regulated environments
– Data governance frameworks (DAMA, DMBOK or similar)
– Relevant cloud or database certifications
