The Opportunity
A leading public sector organisation is seeking an experienced .NET Developer to join an internal project team developing and enhancing a public-facing registration and information system. This contract opportunity will involve the development and maintenance of secure, scalable web applications, working across front-end interfaces, business logic, APIs, data access layers and database components. The role offers a hybrid working arrangement, with two days per week onsite in Dublin, including Wednesday as the team anchor day, and three days working remotely.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop and maintain secure, scalable web applications using .NET, C#, JavaScript/TypeScript and associated Microsoft technologies.
- Deliver full stack application features across front-end interfaces, business logic, APIs, data access layers and database components.
- Implement and support authentication, authorisation and identity management using Microsoft Entra ID, OpenID and appropriate web security standards.
- Develop and optimise SQL Server databases, stored procedures, queries and data integration processes.
- Investigate and resolve application defects, performance issues and interoperability problems across browsers, systems and services.
- Produce technical design documentation, solution specifications, deployment notes and knowledge-transfer materials.
- Participate in code reviews, testing, release activities and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with business users, analysts, testers and technical teams to clarify requirements and deliver agreed outcomes.
- Ensure development work complies with security, data protection, accessibility and change-management requirements.
Required Skills and Experience
- Minimum of five years practical experience in web software development.
- Strong full stack development experience using Microsoft technologies.
- Good experience with TypeScript/JavaScript, CSS/SASS/Bootstrap, XSL/XML, AJAX/jQuery, .NET Core 3.1, C# and T-SQL.
- Experience implementing Azure AD / Microsoft Entra ID identity and access management within a medium or large-scale web application.
- Knowledge of .NET libraries, ADO.NET and the Document Object Model.
- Experience in object-oriented design and development, MVC and design patterns.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server and T-SQL.
- Experience with web security, authentication mechanisms and OpenID interoperability.
- Experience across the full software development lifecycle, from analysis through testing, deployment and maintenance.
- A proven track record of developing enterprise-level software solutions and working across medium and large-scale projects.
Desirable Experience
- Experience with Further Education and Training systems, including PLSS or NPDB.
- Experience supporting end users on custom full stack web-based systems and resolving support tickets.
- Experience liaising with development teams on incidents and recommending fixes to recurring issues.
Qualifications
- ICT degree or equivalent industry qualification.
- Fluent English.
