Senior Manager, IT Strategy and Azure Enterprise Architecture

JOB SUMMARY

  • Our enterprise client is seeking a highly motivated, dynamic individual to join their IT team. They have modernised its IT landscape through a substantial transformation initiative and is now shifting focus toward continuous improvement and adopting next‑generation technologies, including AI‑driven capabilities.
  • This is a senior people manager role within the IT organisation reporting to the Group CIO, responsible for setting the IT strategy, architectural standards, and shaping enterprise-wide solutions across a modern application, data, and cloud landscape.
  • The role sits at the intersection of business problem-solving, enterprise architecture, and technical design, with a strong emphasis on application integration, data platforms, and Microsoft services.
  • This is a quality-first environment, focused on long-term sustainability, sound architectural governance, reduced technical debt, and the pragmatic application of AI utilities to improve delivery outcomes, operational insight, and business value.

 
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

IT Strategy

  • Own and manage IT strategy, including annual reviews and adaptation to the evolving business environment.
  • Understand upcoming technologies and their impact on our business and our IT environment.
  • Advise the CIO and the IT management team on the potential use of those technologies and propose ways for trials and proof of concepts.

Architecture Governance

  • Own and evolve enterprise architecture standards, principles, and reference architectures to guide delivery teams and strategic partners
  • Lead and develop the architecture function, including line management of existing Solution and Domain Architects, coaching/mentoring and setting objectives and standards for consistent delivery
  • Assure solution designs across programmes are secure, scalable, resilient, and cost-efficient, with a strong focus on operational excellence
  • Partner with programme leadership to support estimation, planning, and prioritisation working across Application, Infrastructure, Security, Data, and Digital Operations teams
  • Establish and run architecture governance forums and decision-making processes ensuring architecture artefacts (e.g. standards, patterns, and architectural decision records) are maintained and solutions comply with organisational, legal, regulatory, SOX, and security requirements

IT Architecture 

  • Design and govern solution architectures predominantly on the Microsoft platform, ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture standards, Microsoft security and governance frameworks, including regulatory and compliance standards
  • Architect and oversee modern analytics and data platform solutions leveraging all Microsoft Fabric experiences
  • Define and govern data integration and orchestration patterns using Azure Data Factory and Fabric Data Factory Pipelines, including secure integration with third party platforms and applications (e.g. SaaS, data providers) via approved connectivity, APIs and connector strategies
  • Embed AI-enabled capabilities using Microsoft AI services (e.g. Azure AI, CoPilot) where they deliver measurable business value, ensuring security, privacy and responsible AI considerations are addressed
  • Drive adoption of Power Platform solutions, including Power Apps and Power Automate, to support business process automation and rapid delivery in line with approved architectural guardrails and principles

 
 
JOB REQUIREMENTS, QUALIFICATIONS, and COMPETENCIES
 
Educational/ Experience

  • Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline (or equivalent professional experience)
  • Extensive experience in enterprise and solution architecture roles with demonstratable delivery on Microsoft Platforms, including governance, security and compliance considerations
  • Proven experience designing and governing architectures using Microsoft frameworks and best practice (including Microsoft Cloud Adoption Framework (CAF) and Azure Well-Architected Framework (WAF)) across the full SDLC from solution selection and design through delivery and oversight
  • Effective hands-on experience architecting modern data and analytics platforms on Microsoft Azure and Microsoft Fabric
  • Experience applying Microsoft AI services to deliver business outcomes, aligned to responsible AI principles and organizational risk controls
  • Demonstrated people management and client relationship experience, with strong senior stakeholder engagement and the ability to influence both technical and non-technical stakeholders
