eir business talent is recruiting an IT Security & Network Architect for a 6-month contract role (with extensions)

Location

This role operates under a hybrid working model based in Dublin with onsite attendance required 3 days per week.

Overview

This role serves as the primary interface between the Cyber Security Project Team and the Network Operations function, with a strong focus on delivering security-led network projects and architectural transformation initiatives. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, planning, analysis, and implementation of strategic security solutions that strengthen the organisation’s security posture while aligning with operational and network standards.

The position provides third-level technical expertise and architectural leadership across the full project lifecycle, taking ownership of complex network and security solutions from concept through implementation. This includes producing high-quality technical designs, assessing solution options and ensuring successful delivery across enterprise environments.

Working closely with internal and external stakeholders, the role will shape and deliver secure, scalable and resilient network architectures that support business objectives, regulatory requirements and service-level expectations.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the technical lead for Cyber Security projects delivering network-related security initiatives across a critical 24×7 operational environment.
  • Develop and implement industry best-practice network designs to ensure scalability, resilience, and security of network services.
  • Apply a consultative and strategic approach to lead the delivery of network and security solutions.
  • Design and implement enterprise datacentre networks using Cisco ACI fabric design, including tenants, VRFs, bridge domains and EPGs.
  • Configure and manage Cisco NGFW features including IPS, Security Intelligence, Portscan Detection and Encrypted Visibility Engine (EVE).
  • Manage firewall lifecycle activities including upgrades, policy optimisation and health monitoring.
  • Develop secure network segmentation strategies aligned to zero-trust principles.
  • Utilise automation tools including Python, Ansible and REST APIs.
  • Design, deploy, and optimise application delivery solutions using Citrix Netscaler, including L4–L7 load balancing, WAF, content switching and traffic steering.
  • Implement high-availability and disaster recovery strategies for critical applications.
  • Collaborate with application teams to ensure performance, resilience and secure traffic flows.
  • Resolve complex technical issues escalated from second-line network support teams.
  • Mentor junior and second-line engineers, supporting their development and contribution to team objectives.
  • Provide network and security performance monitoring to ensure critical infrastructure meets SLA requirements.
  • Operate, maintain, and secure network services supporting both internal and external business operations.
  • Continuously develop and test failover and resilience plans for critical network components and services.

Requirements

  • Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) certification – essential.
  • CISSP certification – desirable.
  • Strong expertise in networking protocols and topologies.
  • Proven experience in security architecture design and implementation.
  • Excellent knowledge of network management and administration tools.
  • Experience with Identity & Access Management (IAM) and cybersecurity practices.
  • Strong technical knowledge of TCP/IP, Cisco firewalls, ACI networks, LAN/WAN and VPN technologies.
  • Experience in threat management and vulnerability assessment.
  • Good understanding of ITIL practices, particularly change management and continual service improvement.
  • Excellent communication and technical documentation skills.
