Overview

Data Architect

  • Day rate hybrid contract based with our enterprise client in Dublin City Centre.

Job Description & Summary

  • The Data Architect will lead the development of the Tax LOS data strategy, ensuring alignment with company standards, target-state architecture principles and approved platforms, including existing data mesh capabilities.

  • The role is responsible for defining and maintaining a clear, phased roadmap for the design and implementation of the Tax data architecture, including data modelling, data lineage, metadata management and robust access control. You will also establish the data governance and security model required to support compliant, trusted use of client data for analytics and AI.

  • Working in partnership with internal and global Data and Technology teams, you will enable reuse of enterprise platforms and data mesh patterns, providing architecture artefacts, standards and implementation guidance that support consistent delivery.

  • This position requires strong stakeholder management and hands-on architectural leadership, translating business requirements into a practical blueprint from strategy through to pilot and production delivery.

Key responsibilities include:

Data strategy & roadmap

  • Develop the Tax LOS data strategy, aligning to company direction and defining the target outcomes, principles and measures of success.
  • Develop a multi-year roadmap for the Tax data capability (target state, milestones, dependencies, risks and investment requirements) and support prioritisation decisions with senior stakeholders.
  • Define the Tax data governance operating model (ownership, stewardship, decision rights, controls and forums) in collaboration with Risk, Legal and Compliance, including safe use of data for analytics and AI.
  • Set the approach for data product operating practices within the enterprise data mesh (domain ownership, interface contracts, SLAs and adoption guardrails) in partnership with internal and global Data and Technology teams.

Data architecture (target state & design)

  • Define the Tax target-state data architecture and reference patterns (e.g., lakehouse/warehouse and data mesh) and the transition approach from current to target state.
  • Architect the Tax domain data model(s) (conceptual, logical and physical), including canonical definitions, tax-specific entities, relationships and tax-rule alignment.
  • Design the end-to-end architecture building blocks across ingestion, storage, transformation and consumption/serving, ensuring alignment with enterprise platforms and re-use of global capabilities.
  • Define the metadata management and lineage architecture (catalogue, glossary, lineage capture and stewardship), including data quality approach, SLAs and observability requirements.
  • Define the security, privacy and access control model for client tax data, including data classification, tenancy/isolation requirements, RBAC/ABAC and auditability, aligned to company compliance standards.
  • Define the master and reference data strategy (MDM) and identity resolution approach across client systems and company divisions.
  • Produce and maintain architecture artefacts (principles, standards, target diagrams, reference architectures and decision records) and provide design governance and guidance to delivery teams.
  • Partner with Data Engineers, Analytics and AI teams to validate design choices through lightweight pilots/POCs where appropriate and iterate standards and patterns based on evidence.
  • Provide architectural leadership across the Tax delivery community, mentoring teams and acting as the escalation point for complex design decisions.

Experience Required:

  • 8+ years of data engineering/architecture experience with 3+ years in an architect or lead role designing enterprise data platforms.

  • Deep understanding of data governance, metadata management, lineage, data quality frameworks and tools.
  • Experience in creating data & AI pilots and proof of concepts.
  • Domain experience or demonstrated ability to rapidly learn tax, finance or professional services data models and regulatory constraints preferred.

Technical Skills

  • Strong data modelling skills across conceptual, logical and physical layers; experience with canonical modelling and MDM.

  • Strong SQL skills and working knowledge of Python (or Scala/Java) for design discussions and proofs-of-concept.
  • Familiarity with cloud data platforms (AWS, Azure or GCP) and core services (e.g., S3/Blob, Redshift/Snowflake/BigQuery, Databricks).
  • Experience integrating analytics/ML needs into architecture (feature stores, model serving, MLOps tooling such as MLflow, Seldon/KServe).
  • Gen AI skills including familiarity with vector databases, RAG, and unstructured data management.
