Chief Information Security Officer (CISO)

Contract Details

  • Contract Duration: 12 months
  • Start Date: End of May / Early June
  • Location: Dublin (Hybrid)
  • On-site Requirement: Minimum 3 days per week (4–5 days initially)

Role Overview

This is a senior, CISO-level contract role within a large, regulated public-sector department. The position leads cyber security governance, network and security operations, and assurance activities, with a strong focus on governance, risk management, and board-level engagement.

Key Responsibilitie

  • Lead and manage a combined Network and Security Operations team (circa 7 staff)
  • Own and deliver the organisation’s cyber security strategy as part of a multi-year roadmap
  • Drive cyber security governance, policies, standards, and controls
  • Manage and oversee a third-party SOC provider
  • Lead cyber audits, assessments, and risk management activities
  • Manage audit outputs and board-level reporting
  • Coordinate with outsourced internal audit partners
  • Oversee security programmes including training, simulations, tabletop exercises, and penetration testing
  • Present security posture, risks, and recommendations to senior leadership and boards
  • Oversee day-to-day security operations, reporting, and risk management

Required Experience & Skills

  • Senior cyber security leadership experience (CISO / Head of Security / equivalent)
  • Strong background in security and network operations
  • Proven experience in cyber governance, risk management, and audit delivery
  • Experience managing SOC or managed security service providers
  • Strong understanding of security frameworks (e.g. NIST; NIST2 planned)
  • Experience in regulated environments / public sector
  • Strong people management and leadership capability
  • Excellent stakeholder, reporting, and board-level communication skills
