eir business talent is currently recruiting for an Application Development & Integration Specialist.
This is an exciting permanent role with our well known client in Leopardstown!
 
What are the main responsibilities of this role?
Application development and enhancement

  • Develop, maintain and enhance business-critical local applications in line with business requirements, technical standards and operational needs.
  • Analyse requested changes and new requirements, and translate them into practical, reliable and supportable technical solutions.
  • Contribute to the ongoing evolution of locally managed applications, balancing immediate business needs with longer-term maintainability and control.

Application support and maintenance

  • Provide technical support for locally managed applications, ensuring defects, incidents and system issues are investigated and resolved effectively.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of application behaviour, dependencies, known issues and operational impacts.
  • Help ensure that core local applications remain stable, supportable and fit for business use.

Systems integration

  • Design, implement, maintain and improve interfaces between local systems, global platforms and third-party solutions.
  • Investigate and resolve integration failures, data issues and cross-system defects affecting business operations.
  • Support the controlled introduction of new interfaces and technical changes across the application landscape.

Technical analysis and problem-solving

  • Investigate complex technical and functional issues across applications, integrations and related data flows.
  • Identify root causes, assess business impact and implement pragmatic, sustainable fixes.
  • Work through issues methodically in environments involving multiple systems, teams and dependencies.

Collaboration with business stakeholders

  • Work closely with business users and the IT Business Analyst to understand operational requirements, pain points and priorities.
  • Translate business needs into clear technical actions and explain system behaviour, issues and options in a practical and understandable way.
  • Help ensure local business priorities are properly reflected in application delivery and support activity.

Coordination across offshore, global and vendor teams

  • Collaborate with offshore development and support resources, global IT teams and third-party providers to deliver changes, investigate issues and maintain service continuity.
  • Help drive technical progress across teams that do not report directly into the role, using strong follow-up, judgement and clear communication.
  • Support effective coordination where responsibility spans local ownership, offshore execution and group-managed systems.

Change delivery and operational readiness

  • Support the delivery of fixes, enhancements, upgrades and other application changes in a controlled and sustainable manner.
  • Help ensure appropriate testing, documentation, support readiness and handover are in place for changes moving into live use.
  • Work with colleagues across Digital & IT to reduce operational risk associated with application and integration change.

Documentation, control and continuous improvement

  • Maintain and improve technical documentation, support information, interface knowledge and development artefacts as appropriate.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify, strengthen and improve application design, supportability, resilience and development practices.
  • Contribute to a disciplined and well-controlled approach to local application and integration management.

Quality, reliability and supportability

  • Help ensure that delivered solutions reflect appropriate attention to performance, reliability, security, auditability and operational support requirements.
  • Support the wider Applications function in maintaining a stable, effective and business-aligned application environment.

 
What would our ideal candidate bring?

  • Strong experience in software development, business applications, systems integration or application support in a live business environment.
  • A practical understanding of how applications, databases, integrations, infrastructure and networks interact in day-to-day operations.
  • Strong technical ownership and follow-through, with the ability to drive issues and changes through to completion across multiple teams and dependencies.
  • The ability to work effectively across business stakeholders, technical colleagues, offshore resources, vendors and international teams.
  • A calm, professional and structured approach when handling incidents, defects, competing priorities and live operational issues.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to translate effectively between technical detail and plain English for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capability, with attention to detail and a disciplined approach to technical investigation.
  • A continuous improvement mindset, with the ability to identify weaknesses and implement pragmatic, sustainable improvements.
  • The flexibility, curiosity and resilience to succeed in a dynamic technical role within a small team operating in a complex local and international environment.

 
What qualifications are needed?

  • A third-level qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in software development, systems integration, application support, or a similar technical applications role.
  • Experience developing, maintaining or supporting business applications in a live operational environment.
  • Strong SQL and relational database skills.
  • Experience investigating and resolving complex application or integration issues in a structured and practical way.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions and to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Good understanding of how applications, data, infrastructure and interfaces interact in production environments.
  • Experience with IBM i RPG
  • Familiarity with ITSM tools and practices
  • Experience in a regulated environment, financial services, leasing, fleet management, automotive or a similarly operationally demanding sector would be beneficial.
